With the big day approaching I know you’re in a fervor trying to figure out what you’re going to be wearing yourself, I hope you haven’t forgotten about choosing the bridesmaid’s dresses! They’re the petals of your glorious nuptial flower, and you want them to pay the perfect complement to the shining jewel that is your wedding gown. I know not all of you are fashion coordinators, nor can you necessarily afford one, so we’re going to give you a few pointers on how to pick the perfect dresses for your bridesmaids.
Temper Your Dream With Your Budget: I hate to start this out on what could be considered a negative note, but it really doesn’t have to be. Keeping your budget in mind when choosing your bridesmaid’s gowns is vital to making sure you don’t fall in love with something you can’t afford. It will also help narrow down your decisions, budgetary constraints can actually be helpful!
Pick Your Dress First: Like I said, your dress is the shining jewel at the centre of the bouquet that is you and your bridesmaids. You want to make sure your gown is picked first so you can make sure theirs complements yours. Also, you don’t want them to outshine you, so best to know what you’re competing with before making a choice.
Know Your Bridesmaids: That periwinkle dress is absolutely dreamy, isn’t it? But will it work with Jennifer’s hair and skin tone? Rebecca’s? What about Tiffany’s? You want to make sure that your dresses don’t just look good on the rack, but will compliment your retinue. Speaking of racks, you might want to consider the various depths of cleavage you’ll have to be decorating and whether that plunging neckline is really going to work for Jessica’s décolletage.
Give Yourself Plenty of Time: This one is more of a ‘save your sanity’ than ‘pick the perfect dress’, but it has to be mentioned. Dresses often take two to three months to arrive, and any alterations can take four to six weeks. Ordering them six months ahead of time is an absolutely vital part of making sure that everything comes together smoothly well ahead of your wedding day.
So that’s it, four easy steps to making sure you get the right dress for your bridesmaids, in the right amount of time, with as little fuss as possible. It’s an important decision, almost as important as selecting the right husband (or wife!), so don’t let it wait till the last minute. Most of all, make sure that you and your bridesmaids love what you’ve selected, and you’ll all be happy and look great to boot!
