Where can you go that will be the perfect place to wind down after the excitement of the wedding and make the most of your time together? Here is a choice of places that could have your perfect destination amongst them.
1. New Zealand.
Expensive to get to, but filled with jaw-droppingly awesome scenery. If you’re having a winter wedding, you could escape the soggy British winter and enjoy the cleanest air on the planet. Golden Bay at the top of the South Island has beaches to die for, and you don’t have to share them with hordes of people. You can see baby seals, penguins and albatrosses and paddle in sparkling, clean water. Quaint cafes, junk shops and artists’ studios abound in the South Island. Kiwis love morning and afternoon tea with home-baked cakes, slices and scones. The Abel Tasman National Park is not far away and if you like an action-packed holiday, there is kayaking, cycling and walking. Drive to Picton and take the ferry to Wellington to see Te Papa National Museum and enjoy New Zealand’s quirky capital. Its hills are home to streets full of character, ventilated by sea air and with statues and art installations everywhere you look. Fly then to Queenstown and admire the aptly-named Remarkables mountain range and the sparkling lake. Queenstown and nearby Wanaka and Arrowtown have fabulous shops and the area is famed for its skiing, its wine and cheese-making and its orchards. Thrill-seekers can bungy-jump at A J Hackett’s, where bungy jumping was invented, or ride the jet boat on the Shotover River. Did I mention Mount Cook, the glaciers, the Lord of the Rings film locations, Hamner Springs spas?
The city of lovers. Art everywhere, fabulous food and drink, and stunning architecture. The night life is great, of course, and you can lunch on the Seine in a bateau parisien, as you tour the city by river. If you want to throw off all your adult cares, you can go to Disneyland Paris, or you may want a short trip to The Tuileries where Marie-Antoinette lived out a fantasy pastorale, or Versailles, where the Sun King wowed his entourage with all the luxury of the age.
3. Vegas baby!
For a tongue-in-cheek celebration of nouveau riche luxury, where you could stay in the best hotels in America. They’re well-used to hosting weddings in Vegas, and you could rely on slick, stress-free service with everything thought of. You could even have your wedding there, performed by an Elvis impersonator. In the evening, you would have the glamour and excitement of the casinos and in the day, there are lots of day trips to choose from, including the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and Hollywood.
4. Larnaka, Cyprus.
The best place for a Spring beach holiday. The beaches are to die for and the hotels are top-class. If you want some culture, there are ancient ruins everywhere, overgrown with wild flowers and herbs and looking down at the sea. Cyprus is dominated by Mount Troodos, and if you have grown tired of the heat and laziness of the beach, you can book a tour of Troodos, to enjoy the fresh mountain air. The off-road tours are exciting and interesting and you can count on Cypriots to steal your hearts with their generosity and love of life.
